One of Hollywood's most successful male sex symbols was in town to receive the prestigious George Eastman Award.
Richard Gere received the award at the Eastman House's Dryden Theatre.
The award recognized Gere's contribution to film and humanitarian causes.
Not only has Gere acted in more than 40 movies, he established the Gere Foundation, an organization that provides grants for advancements in public health, education, and emergency relief in Tibet.
Gere has also long been involved in the international fight against HIV and AIDS.
In his acceptance speech, Gere attributed her parents for his success.
"And I want to thank you all here in Rochester and this wonderful award. I have to tell you too, that I didn’t have much time to look around this place. It’s a beautiful physical place, but I was down in the film archives, unfortunately I wasn’t able to see films, but there are 30,000 films here in this place. The extraordinary still archives, which I just scratched the surface of the surface of. Amazing stuff," said Gere.
Gere said he wants to return to Rochester to spend more time looking at the historic photos and films.
