Tickets for the U.S. Women's soccer match against Costa Rica will not go on sale to the general public on Friday.

Because of the high demand, U.S. Soccer and stadium officials are working to expand seating capacity. Nearly 11,000 tickets have been sold through special presale offers.

There is no word yet as to when the tickets will go on sale to the general public. We'll pass that information along as it becomes avaliable.

Abby Wambach's Olympic gold medal homecoming is the hottest ticket in town, but there aren't many of those tickets left. Advanced sales to sponsors of USA Soccer, Rochester Rhinos season ticket holders, and other groups have left a limited number available to the general public.

"U.S. Soccer controlled this event. The only area that we've actually been able to work with is the suite level and that's because we have companies that have earned the right of the suite so they have first right to those tickets that's why we have some control on those tickets. It's still tickets that U.S. Soccer is going to make money on,” said Pat Ercoli, Rhinos President.

As of Thursday morning, nearly 11,000 tickets had already been sold. Last year following the Women's World Cup, 15,400 fans crammed into Sahlen's Stadium for a Women's Professional Soccer match between the Western New York Flash and magicJack that featured many national team players including Wambach.

Betsy Hendrick is looking to land four tickets to the September 1st match. She said it's disappointing that the average fan may be left out.

"The average fan is the one that supports soccer day in and day out, the one that watched the Olympics, watched the reruns whenever they could get them, it doesn’t make me feel good about it but it always has been that way unfortunately,” she said.

Those unfortunate not to get tickets to the USA game on September 1st still have an opportunity to see the team. There will be a practice session here at Sahlen's Stadium the day before.

That will be open to the public beginning at 11:30 a.m. on August 31st. It may give fans a better opportunity to get closer to the team than if they attend the game.

"My understanding is two to three thousand people show up to that event. It's a free event, the U.S. National team will be available to the people who weren't able to get a ticket,” Ercoli said.

For those who want tickets to the match, the best advice is to get in line early.
