Just two months after it was created, the Give A Soul Foundation has collected more than 1,000 shoes for their cause.
Founders Kiara Harris and Craig Puritt saw that there was a need in their community from both children and adults for footwear. Give A Sole accepts gently used and new sneakers.
Friday's event brought community members together to play basketball and spread awareness of the new organization.
About 90 players participated in the tournament, with a grand prize of $2,000.
Some players and people who came to watch brought shoes with them to contribute to the cause.
"They were scheduling a basketball tournament and we felt as if we could get the community involved into giving donations at the tournament and then naming the tournament after us. We felt like that would be helpful," said Puritt.
