On Thursday, the University of Rochester honored a former Suffolk County Legislator and Director of the Anthony Center for Women's Leadership.
Nora Bredes, who died back in August from breast cancer complications, was posthumously awarded the Susan B. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award.
Bredes was a longtime activist in women's, public health and environmental issues. She was the director of the center for 12 years, where she celebrated women's achievements and analyzed barriers to their progress.
Bredes husband, Jack Huttner, accepted her award.
"It’s a great privilege to have Nora recognized among the young women’s leaders, to be ranked with the other lifetime achievement award winners here, at the Susan B. Anthony Center, and it’s a great honor to have her remembered in this way."
Huttner said that his wife would have been truly honored by the recognition.
