Local students investigating the pollution at Ontario Beach Park unveiled their findings Monday.
City students taking part in the Get Real! Science Camp for the past week tested water quality for contaminants. They then gave presentations on why they think the beach is often closed to swimmers.
"We found a lot of bacteria at Charlotte Beach, but it was closest to the pier. And that part was really green. It was dirty. It was muddy, but as we went to the swimming area, it cleared up and the mill area was clear as well," said Jada Anderson, School #3 student.
Monroe County regularly tests bacteria levels at the beach.
The Get Real! Science Camp is led by graduate students at the University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education.
