Whether you like to go for long walks, run or travel, there is an animal companion that's right for you.

One of the most popular breeds in America, the Labrador Retriever, is a natural athlete, lovable, curious and ready for anything. Labs and lab mixes make great companions and are at their best when given consistent obedience training.

Basic commands like come, sit, stay and leave it, should be practiced daily to ensure your outings together are safe and enjoyable.

Just because a dog is small doesn't mean they don't like to have big fun. Shih-Tzu, Chihuahuas and Miniature Schnauzers are all great travelers. Their compact bodies make them easy to walk on leash and easy to carry if you are traveling by air to your next adventure.

The key to any dog fitting into an active lifestyle is proper socialization and obedience training. If you want to go everywhere with your dog, spend some time training them and bring them with you everywhere you can.

You want them to feel confident and calm in any situation and that simply means exposing them to a variety of environments. From city streets and out door cafes to walking trails, if you are having fun they will too.

Before you bring home any pet, do your own research and choose them based on personality rather than looks.
