Weaver is in his second term in the Steuben County Legislature. He's also a pharmacist who has owned and operated his own two pharmacies in Dansville and Hornell.

Weaver says if elected, his focus would be to create jobs and help reduce state mandates. His supporters says he would finally give a voice to this largely rural and agricultural district that includes five towns in Monroe County, a portion of Steuben County, and all of Livingston County.

"The way the majority currently is set up, someone who is in the smaller conference really doesn't get in the room when decisions are being made. That has made counties like Steuben and Livingston be at a disadvantage and we're very eager to change that. We think we can do that with Randy Weaver," said Judith Hunter, Livingston County Democratic Committee Chair.

"As a pharmacist, I have great knowledge of the ins and outs of the Medicaid system; a 54 billion dollar program of the State of New York. As a county legislator, I serve on the Health & Human Services Committee, I serve on the Agriculture Industry and Planning Committee. I'm a former member of the Public and Corrections Committee. I have a vast knowledge of how what happens in Albany gets shoved down to the county government and lower municipality government," Weaver said.

Weaver is facing attorney and conservative talk show host Bill Nojay for the seat. Nojay was the Chief Operating Officer of the Detroit Transportation System. He says New York State has been gutted by high taxes and job killing regulations.

Avon Mayor Richard Burke, who lost to Nojay in the primary, is running on the Conservative line.
