SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The final scores of Syracuse's first two games this season show blowouts, but head coach Jim Boeheim sent a clear message of displeasure to his team after Sunday's 86-67 win over Canisius at the Carrier Dome.

With the bench struggling to keep the Orange ahead when the starters rested in the first half, 10th-ranked SU again went into the break with only a three-point lead, 32-29. Once again the second half was a different story as Syracuse's first-teamers opened with a 7-0 run to begin pulling away, but Boeheim said afterwards the team cannot survive long-term if its younger players cannot hold their own and called the squad the most overrated he's ever had at this point.

Singled out was freshman starter Fab Melo, who only scored two points before fouling out, and Dion Waiters and James Southerland combined for only five points off the bench after totaling 17 in the season-opener against Norther Iowa.

On the positive side, five players scored in double-figures led by Rick Jackson with 17 and Brandon Triche with 16. Jackson also had 13 rebounds, five assists, four blocks and two steals while freshman C.J. Fair scored 11 points off the bench and fellow freshman Bay Moussa Keita provided a big rebounding boost with 15 boards.

Syracuse again has only one day to practice before its next game as it finishes its opening three-games-in-five-days stretch Tuesday against Detroit at the Dome.
