Wrist procedure for Mario Williams
If all goes according to plan, we will find out very soon just how much Mario Williams' wrist injury contributed to his slow start. The star defensive end was not at practice in Orchard Park on Wednesday. He missed the workout to undergo a procedure on his left wrist.
"The update on Mario is he had a procedure done to relieve some discomfort in his wrist," head coach Chan Gailey said. "We expect him back for practice next week. That is all I know at this point."
Gailey did not provide any further details. He told the media he was unsure on the specifics of the procedure, where it took place, and how Williams arrived at the decision to have it. But he did shed some light on how it may affect his play.
"Every advantage you can get mentally for every player is great," he said. "Everything that makes them feel better about playing, it helps."
The head coach also noted that the time was right.
"When you take care of things it is (during) the bye week. If you have some things you can take care of, you do it."
Gailey said Williams is expected back on the field at the team's next practice Monday and is not expected to miss game time.
