Brandon bringing "Moneyball" to Bills

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Moneyball and Sabermetrics is a big hit in baseball, and now more and more NFL teams are looking at analytics.

Consider Russ Brandon one of them.

The Bills' new president has a background in baseball and during his press conference Tuesday he talked about adding a football analytics department at One Bills Drive.

It's a way to evaluate different aspects of the franchise by applying numeric values. It can be used to measure player production and effectiveness, salary cap issues, and other areas.

"We’ve seen it in the NBA and we’ve seen it more in baseball," said Brandon. "It’s starting to spruce its head a little bit in football and I feel that we’re missing the target if we don’t invest in that area of our operation. And we will. Jim Overdorf does a great job as our lead negotiator and managing the salary cap and we will sit down and really focus on layering that option into our football operation."
