The town of Gates held a competition Saturday to see which restaurant had the best wings in the area.
Hailed as the "Great Gates Wing Off," this contest was part of the Gates Summer Celebration.
Numerous Gates restaurants faced off against one another, submitting their chicken wings in two categories: Best Overall Wings and Hottest Wings. Patrons had the chance to sample and then vote on who they thought should win.
Participating restaurants also had a shot at another title, the "Gates Golden Wing." This contest involved people eating two dozen wings as quickly as they would, the winner being the first one done.
Mark Assini, the Town of Gates Supervisor said, "And we thought this would be a fun event. We've seen chili cook offs, we've seen other types of cook offs-and I thought since we have such a great array of chicken wings, why not do a wing off? It was a natural fit and we're just so pleased with how it turned out."
Winners of best and hottest wings were from "Rookies Bar and Grill" and the winner of the eating contest was Mike Caternolo.
