Fire officials say a man was found dead Saturday morning after a small fire in Fairport.
Fire crews responded for the report of smoke seen from the roof of the ranch-style home on Fairport Road around 9 a.m. When firefighters made entry, they found heavy smoke, but no flames.
Firefighters found an unresponsive man in a bedroom. Deputies tell us he died at the scene.
"We didn't really encounter a whole lot of fire," said East Rochester Fire Chief Steve Williams. "It appears at this time that most of the fire was in the basement and had gone out prior to our arrival."
Monroe County Sheriff's deputies were at the scene of the fire and crime scene tape was on the house. The chief said deputies were collecting property from the house for everybody's safety.
Deputies are calling the victim's passing an unattended death and continue to investigate.
