"I wanted to get out of there. I didn't want to raise my family there...All the crime and everything was getting out of hand," Jose Ramos said.

But crime hit close to home for the Ramos family almost two weeks ago.

"When my son got shot in the head like that, I was like, ya know, for what reason, no reason behind it," said Jose Ramos.

On the night of July 2nd, Ramos said his 22-year-old son was shot outside a convenience store on Clifford Avenue. Police now believe Jermaine Johnston was the gunman and are expected to charge Johnston with attempted murder and robbery.

"These kids don't have no sense, no morals, no nothing. I mean to shoot some innocent person like that, anybody could have got shot like that," said Jose Ramos.

Police say often times people are reluctant to step forward with information, but that was not the case this time as neighbors are being credited with helping to get the suspect off the street.

Michael Wood, Rochester Deputy Chief of Operations said, "There's no way that we can do these cases and put them down and make arrests as quick as we can without people stepping up and giving us information."

Luz Ramos, the victim's mother, said, "Thanks to the community that they helped out in solving this crime, but my heart goes out to the other victims that were killed this week."

As a memorial site continues to grow at the crime scene on Delamaine Drive-- one neighbor told us-- the shootings are now happening in broad daylight-- and another young life was taken.

Jose and Luz Ramos are grateful that their son survived.

"My own son got shot like that for no reason, it's hard for a person to see that...Thanks to the angel that saved his life that night," Luz Ramos said.
