A 24-year-old man is now in custody in connection with a mass shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado.
Police say 12 people are dead and about 50 wounded, the youngest victim being just three-months-old.
Police have identified the gunman as James Holmes, a white male with a clean criminal record.
Moviegoers attending the midnight opening of the Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises" say Holmes was wearing a mask, set off gas, and fired into the crowded movie theater.
A moviegoer in another theater watching the film described the horror he witnessed after the shooting.
"I saw at least four, maybe five people that were limping, wounded, slightly bloody. The most that I saw was a girl who was pretty much covered in blood and she didn't have any wounds on her. So it made me think the worst," said the moviegoer.
It was the worst mass shooting in Colorado since the Columbine High School massacre in 1999, which occurred about 15 miles from the theater.
Police have not released a motive.
