The owner of O'Callaghan's Pub on Monroe Avenue in Rochester attended a public hearing at City Hall Monday night to discuss extending the hours of operation on the back deck at the business. However, City Council denied that request.
Currently, city ordinances require the deck to close at 11 p.m.; however, the pub is open until 2 a.m.
The owner, Tom O'Callaghan, said he is looking to extend the deck hours in order to generate more business, but some residents voiced their concerns about the noise.
"More patrons would come an enjoy the outdoor area, especially Monroe Ave., people like to be outside, there's not anybody else who has a back deck like ours with the trees and lighting and everything out there. It's a nice place to have some food or beverage. It would be very beneficial for us to be able extend the hours till 2 a.m.," said O'Callaghan.
"All I know is that I hear it and It starts in the afternoon. He has a happy hour crowd and it goes until 11 o'clock at night," said Tim Dougherty, resident.
The owner says the back deck location is safe and secure, and is in good standing with the City of Rochester.
