Despite the rainy weather, nearly 500 people took part in the 16th annual "Golisano Children's Hospital Golf Classic" Monday evening.
The golfers began teeing off around noon at the Country Club of Rochester. The evening ended with a dinner.
Dr. Nina Schor, Golisano Children's Hospital Pediatrician-in-Chief, spoke about the importance of providing children and their families with not just medical care, but also the non-medical needs that can't be billed.
"Things like the child life department, which makes a stay in the hospital less scary and more fun for a child. Things like social work that tends to the needs of the families that come with the children, and educators that help children keep up with school work while in the hospital. All of these are non-medical services that are indispensable to a child's stay in the hospital," Schor said.
Schor said the money raised is also going to the construction of a new Golisano Children's Hospital.
