Federal Mediator Sits Down With U of R and Union Workers
A federal mediator discussed contract negotiations at the University of Rochester Thursday afternoon.

Some University of Rochester faculty members sent a letter to the school in support of service workers who are negotiating for a new contract.

The letter, signed by 32 tenured or tenure-track professors, calls on the university to quickly bring negotiations to an end. The letter is pushing for the university to leave the workers' benefits package intact.

Members of two SEIU unions say pay and health care benefits continue to be the main sticking points. The U of R says changes in health care benefits are necessary to help reel in costs.

Union members have picketed Strong Hospital and the U of R administration building.
