Authorities say a 32-year-old man was shot to death at his home on Tremont Street in Rochester Tuesday night.

His body was found around 10:30 p.m. inside the doorway of his house.

Family has identified the victim as Jamar Washington, a father of seven who worked with his mother at Rochester Family Mission. The church is located down the street from his house.

Rochester police say someone called 911 for the report of a person shot. When officers arrived they found Washington shot in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A number of people arrived upset and asking who would do this to a man, a man they described as kind and who was trying to make a positive difference in the community.

Barbara Thomas, Executive Director of Rochester Family Mission, says her son Jamar grew up in Rochester and worked with her.

"Jamar was a very loving person and I am going to miss him," said Thomas.

She said Jamar leaves behind seven children and a fiancee.

"I do not know why it happened but I know that he is in the Lord's hands. He is well loved in the community and so we are going to just keep trusting God," said Thomas.

Jones has another son who was also killed in a violent shooting. Michael Washington was fatally shot in 2009.

Police are not releasing any information on suspects or witnesses at this time. Major Crimes is investigating.
