Icy Roads Lead to Car Wreck
One man escaped with non-life threatening injuries after his pick-up truck slammed into a tree in Hamlin Friday night.

Neighbors reported the wreck just before 10 p.m on Morton Road.

Firefighters say when they arrived on the scene, they initially assumed the crash was fatal because of extensive damage to the pick-up truck. However, the driver was conscious and alert. He was transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Ken Keirn, Morton Fire Dept. Assistant Chief, said, "We were fortunate tonight. He didn't have any passengers in the vehicle. I think if there was passengers, we'd have been here with a different outcome tonight."

Firefighters say slick, icy roads may have led to the crash.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
