According to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office, 38-year-old Jason Bliven was attempting to place a loaded handgun in a gun safe when the weapon fell to the floor and discharged.

Deputies said the bullet hit Bliven in the chest and exited near his right shoulder.

Mercy Flight transported him to Strong Hospital in Rochester, where he remains in guarded
condition.

Investigators say Bliven is a registered handgun owner.
