Project Exile Works to Get Illegal Guns off the Streets

Getting illegal guns off the streets is the focus of Project Exile. It's a collaborative effort between law enforcement, businesses, clergy and community members.
The group met Thursday for its 14th Annual "Report to the Community" luncheon.
In the last 14 years, the effort has helped remove more than 14,000 illegal guns from the community.
Project Exile shares information and works to improve communication between law enforcement agencies, officers and residents. Rochester's Deputy Chief, Mike Wood, says the recent string of armed robberies re-emphasizes how important Project Exile is.
"The robberies this time of season, unfortunately we tend to see an uptick of robberies and we have seen a little bit of lately and the ones in particular the last few days are alarming because of the nature of the weapons that are out there," said Wood. "The other thing, the gun store break in that has happened and we are very concerned about that and those guns ending up on the street."
If you know the whereabouts of an illegal gun, you are encouraged to call 911 and report it to police.
