A magnet for newcomers, the Lehigh Valley Trail has embarked on a project to simultaneously unite the community, and preserve history.

The Mendon Foundation is in the process of building an almost exact replica of the Lehigh Valley Railroad's Freight House.

For a little more than 20 years, the Mendon Foundation has stuck to three core goals: preservation, recreation, and education.

After their establishment in 1992, the foundation obtained a sizable grant allowing them to move forward with restoring history. With help from the Monroe County Parks Department and a group of dedicated volunteers, that's exactly what they've done. They've made the rebuilding process a celebration of a long-term vision and of community.

"This type of work is part of our development of ourselves in the Mendon Foundation as well as a development of properties that would enhance the community," said Warren Wallace, Mendon Foundation Board Member.

Building of the Freight House Replica is still underway, but nearing completion. An official opening of the community space will follow.
