Hundreds Compete in Robot Competition

Hundreds Compete in Robot Competition
More than 300 students competed in the 8th annual "FIRST LEGO League Championship" Sunday.

"FIRST," stands for "for inspiration and recognition of science and technology." They team up with the University of Rochester each year in the robot competition.

Teams of nine to 14 year-old students are given eight weeks to build a robot that solves a particular issue in the community. This year's issue was "senior solution."

"This year's challenge deals with helping our seniors in our community overcome some of the challenges that they face," said Damian Garcia, Tournament Director. "So we have our robots behind us on the tables and some of the missions they're executing, they have to for instance, flip over and turn on a stove and turn off a stove safely."

36 teams took part in this year's championship.
