The Rochester City School has kicked off it school choice application period.

Parents and students have a chance to explore all the schooling and program options the district offers.

The Rochester City School District offers school choice for select grade levels. Parents of Rochester students entering 7th and 9th grades this fall have until the end of the month to apply to the school selection of their choice. The deadline for kindergartners is March 1.

There are more than two dozen schools to choose from for 7th and 9th graders. The district website has a complete list of schools and also a breakdown of each individual school when it comes to things like enrollment numbers, sports programs and advanced placement opportunities.

Wilson Foundation is holding a Recruitment Open House Tuesday night from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for families interested in learning more about that school.

Saturday is the School Choice Expo. There you will be able to talk to representatives from all the schools so that you will be able to select the best school for your child.

The district says that every completed application will be entered into a computerized placement database that ensures all students fair and equal access to available seats in the schools.

The computer assigns each application a number at random. No preference is given to applications that are submitted early.

School Choice Expo is Saturday, Jan. 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
