Free ice skating lessons were held Saturday for young children at Rochester's Manhattan Square Park ice rink.

The group lessons were led by staff members from the Go Figure Skating School, which is certified by the United States Figure Skating Association.

The City's Department of Recreation and Youth services held the lessons to get kids outdoors and active during the winter.

"Ice skating is a wonderful sport, not only for the children but as well for the family," said Mary Monell, owner of Go Figure Skating School. "Especially in the wintertime, it gets kids up, it gets kids out, and it gets kids active."

The free lessons are held each Saturday through February 16th. They're for children ages 4 through 12.

There are about 50 openings for for each event taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
