High-school athletes came out to Spencerport on Monday for a football recruiting event.

Athletes signed up and walked in on their day off of school for the chance to be seen by scouts and gain exposure.

The event organizer explained why events like this are so important to the recruiting process in Western New York.

"Kids from here carry a chip on their shoulder because sometimes we get overlooked, our talent goes unnoticed. They look at Florida, Texas, California, Ohio, Pennsylvania as all the biggest recruiting states. But New York, last year we had 15 total scholarships in Division One go," said Kala Gause, event coordinator.

Between sign-ups and walk-ons, more than 130 athletes turned out.
