The first of two public information sessions on a new Monroe Community College downtown campus met Thursday night.

Acquiring the Kodak property at State Street and Morrie Silver Way is entering the final stages, and a major topic at the meeting was the college's vision for the new site.

Contributing factors to the decision were the needs of students, an affordable site, accessibility, and parking.

MCC President Anne Kress said that the goal is to have approval by the middle of February.

"It's a big deal for MCC. As our chairman shared, this is a project that's been in the works for about 20 years, so for us to be close is very significant for the college," Kress said.

The second public meeting will be held on Saturday, January 26th at 9 a.m. at MCC. Experts from the college will be on hand to answer questions from the community.
