Heating Problems at School 28 Cause Concern For Parents
The Rochester City School District said a clogged boiler line has caused problems with the heat at School 28 on Humboldt Street.
A District representative who visited the school Friday acknowledged that the classrooms, which were at 64 degrees, were uncomfortable but not unsafe.
The heating issue left parents wondering, to what degree is a classroom too cold for elementary age students?

The District said the problem with the boiler system was found over winter break, but as temperatures dropped this week, it became a concern. Space heaters are being used to warm up some 24 classrooms.
"The concern that I had this morning from the staff members there was that the building was uncomfortable and not an optimum learning environment for kids," said Michael Schmidt, Director of Operations.
While the school has been experiencing heat issues for a few weeks now, a letter didn't go out to parents until Friday.
"The notification of parents would be when it's unsafe and at no point was it unsafe," Schmidt said.
"I said, are my kids cold? I wish I would have known more so they were dressed appropriately if there is issues," said one parent.
"It's to the point where your like getting goosebumps and stuff and everyone in the class is complaining that it's really cold and you go to the heat and it's pushing out cold air," said one student.
The District is encouraging students to wear warm clothes and say students will be taken to the library or computer lab if their room is too cold.
"They shoudn't have to be wearing layers and layers of clothes to go to school, it's inappropriate," said another parent.
School 28 will be undergoing renovation next year as part of the District's modernization plan.
The District says the heating system will be monitored over the weekend. All classrooms will be kept at 72 degrees to ensure a more consistent temperature for students.
