Alabama Standoff Ends With Five-Year-Old Hostage Alive
Jimmy Lee Dykes, the man police say was holding a five-year-old child hostage in Alabama, is dead, and the child was unharmed.

Dykes was accused of shooting and killing a school bus driver last Tuesday, and then taking the child from that bus. He had since been holding the child in an underground bunker.

According to CNN, there were previous reports from Dykes' neighbors that a "boom" and gunshots were heard.

"Within the past 24 hours, negotiations deteriorated and Dykes was observed holding a gun. At this point, FBI agents fearing the child was in immenent dange, entered the bunker and rescued the child," said Steve Richardson, FBI.

Authorities had been talking with Dykes through a ventilation shaft for the week.
