Concert Proceeds Help School Receive Music Program
Music through the Ages held its 2nd annual WinterTunes Benefit Concert Sunday to help provide music programs for School 19.

The concert featured local music groups and a string song orchestra. Music through the Ages provides song workshops, instrument instruction and music performances to the students outside their curriculum.

Event organizer Joni Monroe says it's important for children to learn about music because it gives them a healthy outlet for their emotions.

"Kids need to be able to express themselves musically," said Monroe. "It helps them to get in touch with how they're feeling and it helps them to get in touch with how to express themselves and put that into positive, constructive terms."

The event raised about $2,400. So far this year the program has been able to raise about $9,000.
