University of Rochester Medical Center cardiologists are offering free heart screenings at Marketplace Mall in Henrietta today.

Doctors and nurses will be at the mall discussing the prevalence of heart disease, risk factors and prevention tips until 2 p.m. They will also have free blood pressure and oxygenation screenings.

The "Sim Man," a computerized mannequin that illustrates how blood pressure, oxygen levels and heart rate impact the body will also be at the event.

"We don't want you to get to advanced heart failure though, we want you to take care of yourself. Stop smoking, diet, exercise. Know what your risk factors are," said Anna Lambert of URMC Heart and Vascular Center. "So often we find people that we say you know are you on blood pressure medication, they'll say yes, and we'll say did you take it this morning and they'll say no. So there's a lot of opportunity for better health in our community and that's what we're here for today."

This is part of the Medical Center’s community outreach efforts for American Heart Month.

The American Heart Association says by 2030, 116 million people in the United States will have some form of cardio-vascular disease.

URMC will offer free screenings again at the heart walk that is scheduled for April 13 at the Blue Cross Arena.
