Typically a quiet place, Canandaigua's Wood Library is anything but as crews clean up following a pipe burst Monday.

The water caused significant damage to the first floor above the adult fiction section. It also seeped into the children's section on the basement level.

The library's director says about 2,000 books, valued at between $30,000 to $50,000 were damaged. They hope a company in Rushville will be able to help.

"We have the books right now at a freeze drying facility. We're hoping we can save most of those books. About 75 percent of the adult collection was sent over to this facility," said Jenny Goodemote, library director.

The library will be closed on Wednesday.

As for those overdue materials, the director says they will take care of any fees accumulated during this time.
