A new expansion of the Rochester Regional Health Information Organization, or RHIO, will now allow doctors to see critical patient information gathered in the field during ambulance calls.

RHIO has partnered with area ambulance companies to provide the new service.

Patients who have signed-up for RHIO will now have medical information that is gathered by ambulance crews, sent straight to their physicians for future reference.

"If a patient has gone to an emergency department at Strong or Highland, and then gone to the emergency department at Unity or an urgent care center, all of that information will now be available at their next visit," said Ted Kremer, M.P.H., Rochester RHIO Executive Director.

The new program is expected to cut down on hospital stays for patients treated in the Emergency Room.
